Here are 3 teams, 10 players from Upstate to watch in high school boys lacrosse playoffs

With the South Carolina high school boys lacrosse playoffs getting underway this week, here are three teams and 10 players to watch in the Upstate.

Teams to watch

Boiling Springs

Boiling Springs (13-2) is one of three division winners and No. 1 seeds in the Class AAAAA Upper State. The Bulldogs have the state’s highest-scoring offense with 233 points, averaging 15.3 per game, and also the second-best defense with only 5.3 goals allowed. Boiling Springs is 36-13 during the past three years but has been knocked out in the second round by J.L. Mann two straight times.

J.L. Mann

J.L. Mann (8-3) earned a No. 1 seed in Class AAAAA by sweeping through four games in District 1 and allowing only 15 total goals. The Patriots have made it to the Upper State title game five straight years, reached the state championship in 2020 and won it in 2021.  The Patriots lost two of their final five regular-season games at Boiling Springs (12-8) and at Christ Church (11-7).

Christ Church

Christ Church (7-8) is the No. 1 overall seed among eight teams in the Upper State of Class AAAA, which includes all schools besides those in Class AAAAA. The Cavaliers have played a brutal schedule that includes an 11-7 win against J.L. Mann two weeks ago. The Cavaliers have won back-to-back Upper State championships and fell short both times to Lucy Beckham in the state final.

Players to watch

Jack Covington, Mauldin – Covington has 39 goals (ninth-best in state) and 65 points for the Mavericks (13-3), seeded No. 2 in Class AAAAA.

Camden Cremmins, J.L. Mann – Cremmins, a senior attack,  leads J.L. Mann with 24 goals and is second with 37 points, which includes 13 assists.

Hudson Cremmins, J.L. Mann – Cremmins, a sophomore attack, leads J.L. Mann with 45 points, which includes 23 goals and 22 assists.

Lincoln Huskey, Boiling Springs – Huskey was all-state and Upper State midfielder of the year last season. He has 41 goals, 29 assists and 70 points.

Laith Kojah, Riverside – Kojah leads Riverside with 45 points on 28 goals and 17 assists. The Warriors (9-7) are seeded No. 4 in the AAAA Upper State.

GIRLS LACROSSE: Here are 3 teams, 10 players from Upstate to watch in high school girls lacrosse playoffs

Doug Landrum, Greenville – Landrum, defending Upper State player of the year at midfield, has 39 takeaways (sixth in state), 75 ground balls and 31 goals.

Elijah Smith, Boiling Springs – Smith leads the state with 83 points (6.9 per game) by ranking second in goals (49) and third in assists (34).

Kai Smith, Eastside – Smith ranks fourth in the state with 44 goals (5.3) and has added 14 assists for the Eagles (10-6), seeded third in Class AAAA.

Bryce Robinson, Mauldin – Robinson has statistically been the best goalkeeper in the state with a .714 save percentage, stopping 115 of 161 shots at the net.

Jack Henry Roye, Christ Church – Roye was Class AAAA Upper State attack of the year last season as a junior and is now a leader as senior captain.
