3 Peoria-area high school hoopers among 2024 McDonald's All-American game nominees

Three players from the Peoria area are among the 700-plus nominees for the McDonald's All-American high school basketball games.

Peoria High's Aaliyah Guyton, Lathan Sommerville of Richwoods and Cooper Koch from Metamora are vying to earn one of 48 spots for this prestigious annual boys and girls all-star games scheduled for April 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston. Announcement for the rosters is set for between 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 on ESPN's NBA Today.

The senior trio are all ranked in the top 100 by ESPN and committed to Big Ten Conference programs next season. Guyton and Koch will head to Iowa, while Sommerville heads to Rutgers.

In total, the McDonald's All-American Selection Games Committee announced 724 girls and boys nominees for the 2024 games. Players can receive a nomination from their high school coach, athletic director, principal or a McDonald's All-American Games based upon a criteria based upon athletic achievement, scholastic achievement and behavior.

Previous McDonald's All-Americans from Peoria include Howard Nathan (1991), Mike Robinson (1996), Marcus Griffin (1997), Frank Williams (1998), Britney Jordan (2003) and Shaun Livingston (2004).
