Here are the 2023 Providence Journal All-State Girls Golf Teams
The Providence Journal is proud to announce the 2023 All-State Girls Golf first and second teams, presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. The Providence Journal has been naming All-State teams for more than 80 years to recognize and celebrate the top student-athletes across Rhode Island. The Journal Sports staff, with some help from the coaches associations, determine the first- and second-team members. The All-State teams are also posted on the High School Sports Awards page on providence journal.com/sports.
All first-team members were nominees for Player of the Year in that sport, and winners were announced at the High School Sports Awards show held last month at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, featuring ex-Patriots safety Devin McCourty.
In girls golf, the Providence Journal Player of the Year is Adriana Eaton, of Moses Brown School.
The 2023 Providence Journal All-State Girls Golf First Team
Ava Andoscia
Prout, freshman
Making her debut in the new format in the Girls Golf Championships, Andoscia played with a steady hand well beyond her years. Her first-round 85 qualified her for the second day of play and she didn’t stray from the number on Day 2 at Cranston Country Club, shooting an 86 to jump a spot on the scoreboard and finish sixth.
Lily Dessel
Barrington, sophomore
There was no sophomore slump for Dessel this spring. She was one of the best players in Rhode Island from the start of the season to the end. After finishing second at last year’s Girls Golf Championships, Dessell was in the hunt for the title again and battled hard to shoot 77-78 — 155, putting her in third place and setting the stage for what should be an exciting 2024 season.
Adriana Eaton
Moses Brown, freshman
Playing in her first Girls State Championship tournament, Eaton’s goal was to contend. Instead, she won it all. Eaton’s first round featured one of the most entertaining scorecards you’ll ever see — seven birdies helped her overcome a quadruple bogey — but she played consistently on Day 2 and her 73-77 — 150 finish was enough to hold off defending state champion Olivia Williams, getting Eaton’s high school career off to a terrific start.
Kylie Eaton
Moses Brown, senior
Eaton wrapped up a terrific career for the Quakers with yet another strong showing at the Girls Golf Championships. A two-time first-team All-Stater with two top-four finishes already on her resumé, Eaton grinded for days at Cranston Country Club. She shot 78-78 — 156, putting her in fourth place in the tournament for the second straight season.
Claire McTaggart
Barrington, freshman
Playing in her first Girls Golf Championship, McTaggart looked comfortable as she made her way around Cranston Country Club. She battled hard on Day 1 to shoot 85 to make the cut and followed it with an 86 to put her in fifth place, allowing her to make her debut as a first-team All-Stater. McTaggart will be a player to keep an eye on for the next three seasons.
Olivia Williams
La Salle, sophomore
The defending state champion put up one heck of a title defense in the debut of the two-day Girls Golf Championship. After struggling to a first-day 80, Williams caught fire on Day 2 and made a huge eagle on No. 17 at Cranston Country Club to bring her within two shots of the lead. While she didn’t hole out from the fairway on 18 to tie for first, Williams’ 72 was the low round of the girls tournament and put her in second place, helping La Salle win the team title as well.
