2023 Bergen County Football All-Star Game details announced: Check out the rosters
The 23rd Bergen County Football All-Star Game is the final game for the seniors nominated to play, and this year it will be a special farewell for a coach too.
Former Westwood coach Dennis Hard has been named honorary coach for the game between the North and South All-Stars, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at Westwood. Hard recently announced his retirement from the sidelines after 43 years and multiple stops.
“Dennis is a Bergen County coaching legend,” said Leo Ciappina, the game’s organizer. “With the game moving to Westwood this year from Lyndhurst, we just thought this was a great opportunity to give him another chance to walk out to his field.”
Former Rutherford coach Andy Howell, who led the Bulldogs to sectional championships in 2017 and 2018, is the coach of the South squad.
The North will practice at Westwood starting the week of June 5, while the South works out at Wood-Ridge High School. To keep the game competitive, there are rules governing how complicated the defenses can be.
Last year’s game was the most competitive ever. The game ended in a tie for the first time, 16-16, and was broadcast live on NorthJersey.com. The North leads the all-time series 18-3-1.
The North squad includes Dumont star and Monmouth commitment Jackson Lockhart and quarterbacks Brevin Cooney (Ridgefield Park), Andrew Knight (Glen Rock) and Raymend Lao (Fort Lee). The South features quarterbacks Braden Negro (Wood-Ridge), Devin Rivas (North Arlington) and Glenn Falone (Garfield).
Tickets will be on sale at the gate $5 for kids and $10 for adults. The event is being sponsored by Sinners Steakhouse in Point Pleasant Beach.
