2022 Win Totals: Over/Under Picks for Big Ten Teams this Season

We are finally into July and that means next month we will have college football back in our lives.

With the season right around the corner, many are trying to project how their favorite team will do and one tool in doing this is win total betting odds. Tipico has released win over/unders for every Big Ten team except Rutgers so we’ve compiled those win totals and took a look at how the betting experts anticipate things playing out this season.

Illinois

Mike DiNovo/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 4.5

My Pick: Over

I have Illinois finishing right around this number, with a few toss-up games ultimately being the deciding factor. I like Illinois to open up no worse than 3-1 and from there they just need two more wins to hit the over.

Indiana

Mike Carter/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 4.5

My Pick: Under

The last two years have been two completely different stories for the Hoosiers and I’m leaning towards this past year’s debacle being the more accurate representation of this program. I’m not confident with the Hoosiers’ schedule that they’ll hit the over this year.

Iowa

Jeffrey Becker/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 7.5

My Pick: Over

This is another good number mainly based on the Hawkeyes’ brutal schedule. I think Iowa is closer to a 10-2 team this fall but their schedule includes tough matchups against Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska and Purdue — that has me seeing them at 8-4. I still feel confident they’ll hit the over but it’ll be close.

Maryland

Jesse Johnson/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 5.5

My Pick: Over

Maryland’s potent passing attack will keep them in most games this fall and I’m confident they’ll be able to win a number of toss-up games because of that. In order to hit the over, the Terps will need to be no worse than 5-3 heading into their bye week in late October because they’ll face a brutal three-week stretch that includes Penn State, Ohio State and Wisconsin following the bye.

Michigan

Jasen Vinlove/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 9.5

My Pick: Over

Anything less than 10 wins would be a complete failure for the Wolverines this fall with how soft their schedule is in 2022. Michigan has eight home games and doesn’t play a power five non-conference opponent so as long as the Wolverines don’t slip up as a favorite they should hit the over with ease.

Minnesota

Jesse Johnson/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 7.5

My Pick: Over

Another narrow over for me here with my projection at 8-4 for the Golden Gophers this fall. Minnesota will enter this season as a darkhorse favorite to win the Big Ten West and I think they’ll battle late into the season and potentially play for the division crown in the last week of the year against Wisconsin.

Nebraska

Jeff Hanisch/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 7.5

My Pick: Under

I like the Cornhuskers entering this fall but I don’t like them for over this number. Nebraska has been too inconsistent over the past few seasons to expect them to win more than seven games this fall so I’ll take the under here as a safe pick.

Northwestern

William Howard/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 3.5

My Pick: Under

The Wildcats’ off-and-on year-to-year ritual is going to come to an end this year as I anticipate back-to-back lackluster seasons for Northwestern. The number isn’t high by any means but with this schedule, I’m not expecting the Wildcats to win more than three games.

Ohio State

Joseph Maiorana/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 10.5

My Pick: Over

I thought the win total number would be 11.5, to be honest, so at 10.5 I consider this a slamdunk pick. I won’t be surprised if Ohio State loses one game this fall — Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa all are capable of beating the Buckeyes. But I’m not going to pick them to lose two games in a regular season for a second straight year — hit the over here.

Penn State

Rich Barnes/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 8.5

My Pick: Over

I’m sneaky high on the Nittany Lions entering the 2022 season, with expectations of a bounce-back year in Happy Valley. Penn State has a tough schedule — and I could see them losing the opener at Purdue — but the talent is there and wouldn’t be shocked if Sean Clifford takes a step forward this fall. Getting to 9-3 or even 10-2 is in play for Penn State in 2022.

Purdue

Mike Carter/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 7.5

My Pick: Over

I’m on the Purdue Boilermakers train this fall with quarterback Aidan O’Connell back to spearhead one of the league’s best offenses. As I just mentioned, I think Purdue upsets Penn State in the opener and from there rolls to at least eight wins this fall.

Wisconsin

Jeff Hanisch/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 8.5

My Pick: Over

Wisconsin is the favorite to win the Big Ten West Division this fall but it won’t be a runaway division title in my opinion. I like the Badgers to end up in Indy but still see them stumbling at least three times so while I’m taking the over it’ll be by a narrow margin.

Michigan State

Mike Carter/USA TODAY Sports

Win Total: 7.5

My Pick: Over

Michigan State has numerous toss-up games so hitting the over here will come down to how many of those they can win. I like their chances to win at least four of these seven — at Washington, Minnesota, at Maryland, Ohio State, Wisconsin, at Michigan and at Penn State — so getting to eight wins should be possible if they can do that.
