Background

Beginning his college career at the University of Alabama, Alvin Kamara was one of the top running backs in his recruiting class. However, suffering some injuries and behavioral issues during his time with the Crimson Tide, Kamara was eventually dropped from the program. Spending a year in junior college at Hutchinson Community College, Kamara built his reputation up enough to earn a shot at the University of Tennessee.

Taking advantage of this second chance, Kamara did not disappoint. While Kamara was not an every down running back for the Volunteers, he did a good job when he received his reps. Averaging right around 6.2 yards per carry over his two years at Tennessee, Kamara was also a touchdown machine for this team, recording 23 total touchdowns for the team over the two years.

Strengths

With the Philadelphia Eagles in need of a running back to replace Ryan Mathews should he be released, Alvin Kamara could be a solid second round option for this team. A threat in both the rushing and passing game, Kamara also has the talent to potentially take over Darren Sproles’ role once he leaves the team or retires from the league.

Possessing good size for his height, Kamara fits right into the prototypical build of NFL running backs. Kamara also has a rare combination of speed, balance, and power going for him as well. Also flexible as he can line up at the slot receiver position, Kamara is a player that could provide a big, youthful boost for the Philadelphia Eagles offense.

Weakness

One of the biggest concerns for some will be Alvin Kamara’s lack of in game rushing reps. In his two seasons with the Volunteers, Kamara only racked up a total of 210 rushing attempts. Needing some work and experience to eventually be an every down starter, Kamara’s lack of reps and experience could qualify him as a project player to some.

Other areas of concern revolve around his vision, or lack there of a times. Has been known to run right into tacklers instead of trying to look for a cut or even some of his blockers. With the speed of the game much faster at the NFL level, his vision with the ball could get him into some troubling predicaments.
