10 girls soccer players to watch in the postseason

Oct. 10—The girls soccer section playoffs are upon us, with the regular season having wrapped up Saturday in all three classes.

Here is a list of 10 of the most impactful players out of Section One to keep an eye on in the playoffs:

Makadyn Gust, St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura

Gust is among the top handful of goalies in the state. A strong, fast and overall athletic senior, Gust has 87 saves season while allowing just nine goals in 16 games. Gust has an ability to keep the Saints in every game they play. SCLA is allowing 0.6 goals per game.

Araceli White, St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura

When White is healthy, look out. The senior forward is lethal. White, who's been battling a knee injury late this season, has 16 goals and 10 assists in just 12 games played. White is smooth, with excellent foot skills, and can move. She was named All-State a year ago and has helped the Saints average nearly four goals per game.

Samantha Perez, St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura

Perez has put up some of the biggest numbers in the state this season. A blazing-fast junior midfielder, Perez has 27 goals and seven assists for a St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura team that is playing incredible soccer right now. In the last two-weeks, SCLA has wins over No. 2-ranked Minnehaha Academy and No. 6 Lourdes.

Becca Cook, Lourdes

Cook just knows how to score. She has 17 goals for the No. 6-ranked Eagles, as well as seven assists. Cook uses her strength and fluid ball skills to get to where she desires on the soccer pitch.

Paige Halder, Byron

Halder has one of the top blends of athleticism in the state, and that sure works on the soccer field. Also a great track-and-field athlete and basketball player, Halder uses her elite speed to continually put herself in scoring position and to break down defenses. The senior has 24 goals and 10 assists for the 13-2-1 and No. 7-ranked Bears (Class 2A).

Delaney Awe, Kasson-Mantorville

There aren't many better pure scorers than Awe, who has 25 goals and five assists for K-M. A junior forward, Awe is a great all-around athlete. She's high jumped 5-feet-2 and is a key player on the KoMets' basketball team

Faith Quinn, Winona

Quinn was coming off an All-State season a year ago. A senior midfielder, she's been excellent all over again this year in helping her team to a 14-1-1 record. Quinn is a great creator for teammates and has 11 goals and 13 assists this season.

Adriana Brenengen, Winona

A junior midfielder/forward, Brenengen has played a large role in Winona winning all but two of its 16 regular-season games. A sprinter in track, she's taken advantage of that speed to post 17 goals and four assists.

Annika Torbenson, Century

Torbenson combines strength, speed, smarts and a strong competitive spirit to be one of the best defenders around. The senior has gone a long way in helping the Panthers allow just one goal per game. Century is 9-4-3 overall.

Anna Shedivy, Lourdes

Tough to find anyone faster to the ball than Shedivy, a Lourdes junior defender. Also a track star, Shedivy has an ability to race after would-be scorers and take their opportunities away. She has been a huge key in the Eagles allowing just .6 goals per game.
