Team USA's Sochi Games report card

The Winter Olympics are past their midway point, and the lofty early expectations that the United States could come home with up to 16 gold medals now seem embarrassingly overambitious.

There have been plenty of highs, most of them up at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, where the United States' dominance in snowboarding and freestyle skiing has dramatically boosted the medal tally.

The coastal cluster of Adler has brought little but disappointment, with the low point coming in the underperformance of the miserable long-track speedskating team.

With a raft of medals up for grabs in the closing days of the Games, there is still much to play for, with no need for overwhelming doom and gloom just yet.
