Braylon Edwards vs. Michael Phelps: Who ya got?

Braylon Edwards is a fantastic wide receiver. A master gambler, he probably is not.

Before the Olympics, as Braylon and Phelps were hanging out somewhere talking about all things Michigan (take that, Miami of Ohio!), they struck up a bet. Braylon wagered that he'd score twice as many touchdowns as Michael Phelps would win gold medals (gracias, FanHouse).

Phelps, as you may have heard, won eight.

The foot injury wasn’t a complete loss. Edwards used the time on his couch to catch up with swimmer Michael Phelps’ chase for history at the Olympics.

Edwards and Phelps have University of Michigan ties and struck up a friendship. Edwards bragged before Beijing that he would more than double Phelps’ gold-medal total with touchdown catches. After Phelps’ record eight golds, Edwards needs to set another franchise record.

I don't know exactly what's on the line, but I hope Braylon's getting odds. He's going to have to be injury-free and dominant to win this one.

Myself, I don't bet against Michael Phelps. That would feel like betting against America.

You?

Who will win the bet?

Edwards looked horrible today, I watched the first half of the Browns game and saw four dropped passes. I'm not counting bad passes, only ones that hit him in the hands. Having Derek Anderson on my fantasy team, it frustrated me quite a bit. If he plays like he did today, he'll be lucky to hit the same amount of touchdowns as Phelps has medals.

he hasn't been able to run at full speed for a few weeks. he looked like he needed to catch his breath after that long dropped bomb. give him another week or two and he will be back up to full speed. Braylon isn't a half asser hes young enough and smart enough to keep his talent up with the proper training and he wants it bad enough to do so. 16 will be a difficult challenge but after week 1's embarrassment he will show up for the next game with his running shoes on.

Really? I'll tell ya what, Braylon... if you catch 8 TD receptions in the playoffs and win a superbowl, then we can talk. Just think how many gold medals Phelps would have if the Olympics were once a year. That would be a lot. I'm willing to wager, in the next four years, Braylon Edwards won't have more than 8 touchdown receptions in the playoffs. You do have to make the playoffs. Of course, it's all in good fun.

Yeah he'll be lucky to score half as many td's this season if he keeps performing like he did against the Cowboys.

Braylon will score that easy! 1 TD game for the 8 golds. Of course there will be multiple TD games. He just have to worry about injury.

Anybody talkin smack about Braylon, know this. Granted he had a rough game but:
    a) They were playing the Dallas F'ing Cowboys in what could POSSIBLY be a preview of the super bowl (Anybody's game w/o Tom Brady)
    b) He is coming off an injury that cost him most of the preseason
    c) The Browns were missing their 2,3, and 4 recievers which put Anthony Henry on Kellen Winslow and all the rest of the secondary on Braylon.
    He'll get his 16.
