XFC 25 Results: Stephanie Eggink Submits Angela Magana, Captures Strawweight Championship

XFC 25 took place Friday night from the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., with the women’s strawweight championship headlining on AXS TV.

Although Angela Magana overcame a tragic car accident to make it into the XFC 25 main event, she couldn’t overcome the reach of Stephanie Eggink.

It was quickly obvious that Eggink was the much more fluid fighter on her feet. She used her reach advantage to establish her jab early, and Magana couldn’t find a way to close the distance.

Eggink remained patient, however, not rushing for a finish. She chipped away at Magana throughout the first round and into the second round.

Magana finally caught one of Eggink’s kicks and tripped her to the mat in round two, working her ground and pound from Eggink’s full guard. Eggink showed she has much more to her game than her stand-up prowess, however, eventually climbing her legs up Magana’s back, locking in a triangle choke for the finish.

Stephanie Eggink won the fight, capturing the XFC strawweight championship in the process.

Dhiego Lima and Ricky Rainey each had a difficult time establishing any dominance in their co-main event fight, although each had his moments.

Rainey landed some solid punches early, but Lima is good at neutralizing the stand-up of his opponents, and he did a lot of that in this fight, where they spent a lot of time clinched along the fence.

Both fighters looked fatigued and sloppy in the third frame, and this really became a war of attrition that Lima won, when the judges awarded him a split decision victory.

Fighting for a shot at the XFC featherweight championship, Farkhad Sharipov returned to the cage for the first time in two year, but he didn’t skip a beat again TUF alum Stephen Bass. Sharipov used his takedown defense to set up his superior striking to pick Bass apart and wear him down throughout the opening round.

Bass attempted a guillotine choke early in the second frame, but couldn’t lock it down. Returning the fight to the feet, Sharipov continued picking Bass apart. As Bass grew more and more weary, Sharipov put him on the mat and ground and pounded his way to a TKO stoppage.

Rocky France, despite a huge gash across his forehead in the first round, fought on into round two, but he was no match for Ryan Thomas. Thomas battered and bruised France in the opening frame, but finally put him away early in the second round with a Triangle Choke.
