World Peace signs with Knicks
Metta World Peace officially joined the New York Knicks on Tuesday, signing a contract with his hometown team.
The Knicks made the announcement and World Peace confirmed it by tweeting a picture of the signing. After World Peace was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers under the amnesty provision, he received a $1.7 million contract from the Knicks and the Lakers will play the remaining $7.7 million of his deal in LA.
"Metta is a fierce competitor who brings toughness and championship experience to our roster," Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald said. "We are excited to bring him back to New York and give him a chance to play for the team he grew up rooting for."
After World Peace was amnestied by the Lakers, he mentioned playing basketball in China , trying the Arena Football League, or possibly staying in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers or the Knicks, the team he grew up watching.
The 33-year-old World Peace averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.63 steals in 75 regular-season games for the Lakers last season.
World Peace had confirmed the deal with the Knicks in an earlier interview with MSG Network.
"I want to do things that's hard," he said. "That's the challenge of being challenged. We all know it's the hardest place to win. ... Why not take on something that's hard?"
