Wife of Bills' kicker indicates Richard Sherman should be castrated in ill-advised tweet

One of the most dramatic sequences of the NFL season came in the closing moments of the first half of Monday night’s Seattle Seahawks-Buffalo Bills game.

Seahawks’ corner Richard Sherman committed about the most egregious offsides you’ll ever see on a football field, screaming off the line well before the ball was snapped to try to block a 53-yard field goal attempt from Buffalo’s Dan Carpenter, and while Sherman did get some of the ball, he also barreled into Carpenter. The kicker crumpled to the turf, Bills’ medical staff came onto the field, and a few seconds later Carpenter bounced up like nothing was wrong.

Sherman was flagged for offsides on the play.

Buffalo coach Rex Ryan and other members of the Bills weren’t thrilled with Sherman, implying it was a dirty play. Sherman said he was trying to block the kick.

But then Carpenter’s wife, Kaela, took things even further, posting this on Twitter:

Kaela Carpenter has a right to be upset that it initially looked like her husband was injured – although his “miraculous recovery” was reminiscent of an elite-level soccer dive.

But her tweet is highly insensitive and offensive to many.

The instrument pictured is a tool used to castrate animals. Male farm animals are castrated to stem their aggression.

But it was not uncommon during the days of slavery in the United States for male slaves to be castrated or suffer another form of genital mutilation, like animals, as a form of punishment. And even without the racial undertones, threatening to castrate a man over a play on a football field is over the top.
