CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Neither Virginia nor Brigham Young will forget the way the 2013 season started.
Virginia may just want to keep remembering a whole lot longer than BYU.
Playing in soaked conditions that included a two-hour lightning delay at the beginning of the second quarter, the Cavaliers gritted out a 19-16 win on Saturday at Scott Stadium.
An interception by Anthony Harris deep in BYU territory set up the winning 13-yard rushing touchdown by Kevin Parks with 2:36 left.
Justin Sorensen's 35-yard field goal with five minutes left had boosted BYU's lead to 16-12 with 5:02 left.
BYU had taken a 13-12 lead earlier in the fourth quarter when quarterback Taysom Hill ran for a 1-yard touchdown to cap an 11-play, 92-yard drive.
Virginia scored twice in the third quarter to go ahead. David Watford threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Darius Jennings and the Cavaliers added two points when Hill fumbled a snap and recovered in the end zone for a safety.
The Cavaliers ended the first half with a 53-yard field goal by Ian Frye to close to 7-3 after moving 47 yards in eight plays in 57 seconds.
Two storms rolled through during the game and the temperature dipped from 89 degrees at kickoff to about 70. The two-hour weather delay came at the end of the first quarter when lightning was spotted in the area.
