UFC Fight Night 59: McGregor vs. Siver Gate and Attendance

The UFC returned to the TD Garden in Boston on Sunday night, putting nearly all of the success of the event in the hands of brash Irishman Conor McGregor, who, like he has his entire UFC tenure thus far, delivered.

A crowd of 13,828 showed up at the arena to witness McGregor’s dispatching of Dennis Siver. UFC Fight Night 59 produced gate receipts of $1.34 million dollars. Those are strong numbers for a Sunday-night Fight Night event.

McGregor didn’t quite live up to his own prognostication. He said before the fight that he’d finish Siver in two minutes, but it took him just under two minutes into the second round to put the stubborn German fighter away.

He did, however, put him away, much to the satisfaction of a crowd that contained a large contingent of Bostonians of Irish descent.

With the victory, McGregor will now be granted a shot at UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. That fight was initially being targeted for a possible stadium show in Dublin, but now appears to be penciled in for late May in Las Vegas.
