UFC Fight Night 36 Attendance: Fans Turn Out for Machida and Jacare's Battles for Shot at the Belt

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, on Saturday night for UFC Fight Night 36: Machida vs. Mousasi.

The 12-bout fight card drew a crow of 7,511, according to UFC officials at the post-fight press conference.

UFC Fight Night 36 was a pivotal event for the promotion's middleweight division. Lyoto Machida staked his claim for a shot at the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort by defeating former Strikeforce and Dream champion Gegard Mousasi. It took him all five rounds, but Machida scored a unanimous nod from the judges.

The night's co-main event saw Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza throw his hat in the 185-pound title talk ring with a three-round unanimous decision victory over Georges St-Pierre teammate Francis Carmont.

The last time the UFC was in Jaragua do Sul was for UFC on FX 8, which featured Vitor Belfort vs. Luke Rockhold. That card drew 7,642 fans to Arena Jaragua.
