If you look within the NFL record books, you’ll find no shortage of entries for the New England Patriots. There came a point in time, some season several years ago, where the Patriots became serial record-breakers. Whether it was a team record or individual one, the threat has always been the same; The New England Patriots.

The upcoming 2017 season has a chance to bear witness to the Patriots nabbing a pair of consecutive wins records, and tying a third, all in the same season. The records; Consecutive wins including playoffs, consecutive wins in the regular season, and most wins in a single season.

To be fair, the Patriots already own two of these three records. But the opportunity to set or tie the record in all three categories would be special. With the final record having to culminate in a super bowl victory, it would truly be a perfect ending.

Consecutive Wins Including Playoffs (prev: NEP 21-straight)

Since a loss to Seattle coming out of the bye-week last year, the Patriots have rattled off 10 consecutive wins. The last being a 34-28 victory over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Given the makeup of the team and the expectations that follow, it puts the consecutive wins record well within their sights.

In case you need a reminder, the previous mark of 21-straight wins (including playoffs) was set by the Patriots over the span of the 2003 and 2004 season. The streak started with a victory over the Titans on October 5th, 2003. It ended in blowout-fashion to the Steelers on Halloween the following year.

In order for this years team to best that mark, they would have to win 11-straight to start the year. That would give them the chance to set-the-mark at 22-straight games in Buffalo in week 13. A perfectly reasonable challenge for a stacked Patriots team.

Consecutive Wins In The Regular Season (prev: Colts 23-straight)

Although the Patriots can only tie this record by seasons end, it would still be quite the accomplishment to be able to match the Colts mark they set over the span of the 2008 and 2009 season. In that time frame, the Colts appeared in and lost a super bowl.

As of now, the Patriots are sitting at seven-consecutive regular season victories that carry over from last year. The Patriots would need to run-the-table this year in order to tie this mark, but it is certainly within the capabilities of the team.

The Patriots end the year with a match up against the New York Jets at home, perhaps with their sights set on win-16. If they were able to pull off the second 16-win regular season in NFL history, that would set them up to complete the trifecta on the biggest stage.

Consecutive Wins in a Single Season, Incl. Postseason (prev: NEP 18-straight)

They can only beat this record by one win, but what a win that would be. This season will mark the 10-year anniversary of the 2007 Patriots near completion of the 19-0 season. We all know how that turned out.

This year, the stage is set in Minnesota for the Patriots to go for it all again. A bevy of records will fall throughout the year in order for this to come to fruition, with the finale on the grandest of stages.

At this point during the Patriots never-ending run of success, it’s about all that’s left for them to accomplish. Even if they go back-to-back without the perfect season in tact, they will become the third team to have won three super bowls in four years. However, this is nothing new for the Patriots as they have already done this over a decade ago.

As many triumphs as this franchise has had, the conversation somehow always comes back to the 2007 team that failed to win the final game of the season. Avenging the most devastating-loss in franchise history would add a remarkable chapter to this already storied franchise. Doing this all while knocking off a trifecta of consecutive wins records is a fitting tale for the Patriots as they epitomize the term; “Sustained Success”.
