Toledo QB Phillip Ely out for season with torn ACL

Toledo will have to manage the rest of the season without its starting quarterback as coach Matt Campbell announced Monday that Phillip Ely will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Ely suffered the injury late in the third quarter of Toledo's 49-24 loss to Missouri.

Ely was off to a good start in the 2014 season, throwing for 541 yards and four touchdowns before going down with the injury. He began his college career at Alabama but transferred to Toledo in May 2013. After sitting out last season he earned the starting job this year.

Logan Woodside, who replaced Ely against Missouri, will likely take over the starting role for the Rockets who were expected to compete for a MAC title this year.
