Tension in Houston? Report says Texans' Osweiler, O'Brien got into it

The Houston Texans have as good a shot as any other AFC South team to win the division. But it sounds like doing so will involve getting through some tough times between the head coach and quarterback.

According to a CBS report, coach Bill O’Brien and QB Brock Osweiler were involved in a “loud charged interaction” this past week during a film-review session while dissecting the Texans’ Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Worse yet, the argument was overheard by members of the team, and that tension has become an early storyline this season amid the team’s offensive struggles.

This is a crucial stretch for the team. The Texans have a big game at home Sunday night against the rival Indianapolis Colts, and Oct. 24 marks Osweiler’s return to face his former Denver Broncos team — the one he spurned as a free agent this offseason to sign with Houston — on Monday night in Week 7.

Right now, the Broncos look smart for letting Osweiler walk for such big money, at $18 million per season, and the Texans have to find a way to make him better and improve the rapport with O’Brien. That said, O’Brien has been known to be hard on his quarterbacks, once famously getting in Tom Brady’s face (see video below), so perhaps this can be the kind of thing that pushes Osweiler to improvement.

Or it could be the start of a tempest. Either one.
