SMU lands commitment from top guard

One of the top high school basketball prospects in the Class of 2014 picked SMU over Kentucky on Saturday.

Dallas Prime Prep point guard Emmanuel Mudiay gave an oral commitment to the Mustangs and coach Larry Brown during halftime of the Under Armour Elite 24 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

"He's a Hall of Fame coach, he's coached Hall of Fame players, and one day I want to be able to play in the NBA," Mudiay said. "He's coached at the highest level, so I can learn a lot from him. That's where my heart's at. I've got real respect for him."

The 6-foot-5 Mudiay -- the nation's No. 1 ranked recruit by 247Sports and No. 3 by Rivals -- selected SMU over Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

The 71-year-old Brown posted a 15-17 record in his first season at SMU in 2012-13. The Mustangs have moved from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference for the 2013-14 season.
