Sixers center Bynum to have another injection
Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum will have another injection in his right knee next Monday, the team announced Monday, but the team and Bynum's agent say it's a rather routine treatment.
Bynum had injections of platelet-rich plasma in September in an attempt to help the arthritis in his knees.
The team announced he will continue with conditioning drills as part of precautionary measures related to that Orthokine treatment.
Bynum will also receive a Synvisc injection in his right knee from Dr. David Altchek next Monday. The team said Synvisc is a natural substance that lubricates and cushions the joint and has been a routine procedure for Bynum during the previous two seasons.
Sixers officials say it is unrelated to the bone bruise of the medial femoral chondyle of his right knee.
"Look at it as lubrication for his knees," David Lee, Bynum's agent, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He's had them in previous years. Look at it as WD-40, for lack of a better way of explaining it. He gets them at the start of the season, and he gets them at the all-star break. It's noninvasive and has nothing to do with the treatment he received in Germany."
Following the injection, Bynum will be examined by Dr. Jack McPhilemy of Main Line Health.
