Should international soccer be scrapped?
It barely feels like the European domestic season has started, but we are already in the midst of its second international break. The typically uneventful pause from regular domestic action gives us time to reflect: and to question the point of international soccer.
The vast majority of fans prefer watching their club over their country. And in today’s climate, many players seem more willing to perform in the shirt of the club that pays them an exorbitant amount rather than the shirt that happens to represent the country they were born in.
What if we scrapped international soccer and replaced it with something that better reflects the taste of the modern fan? Would you miss it if it was gone? Would you be upset that FIFA’s main source of income dried up?
