The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed goaltender Mike Condon on waivers from the Montreal Canadiens before the season began for a short-term spell while Matt Murray rehabbed a broken finger suffered in the World Cup of Hockey.

Everyone knew Condon wouldn’t be in Pittsburgh for long and now the next stop in his hockey journey will take him to Ottawa. On Wednesday, the Penguins dealt Condon to the Senators in exchange for a 2017 fifth-round pick.

Condon’s only action with the Penguins season was in third period mop up duty during a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators, where he stopped all seven shots he faced.

With Matt Murray returning to action against the Anaheim Ducks tonight, Penguins GM Jim Rutherford makes an easy move to acquire an asset while trading from a position of excess. For the Senators, Condon will provide some insurance in net with Andrew Hammond sidelined with a groin injury and if Craig Anderson needs to leave the team to tend to his wife who is battling cancer.

Now that he’ll need a new mask, hopefully Condon finds a nice home for his sweet Penguins cage:
