Seahawks sign OL Spitz

Jason Spitz, a 30-year-old veteran offensive lineman, signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced Wednesday.

Spitz plays center and guard. His arrival gives the Seahawks insurance at center because Max Unger did not practice Wednesday due to an arm injury.

Spitz was released by the Jaguars in August after spending all of last season on Jacksonville's injured reserve list. He played 10 games for the Jaguars in 2011.

A third-round draft pick of the Packers in 2006 out of Louisville, the 6-foot-3, 298-pounder appeared in 65 games for Green Bay over five seasons. He made 45 starts.
