Rousimar Palhares Offers Weak Defense at NAC Hearing (Full Testimony Video)

Rousimar Palhares, Still Under Suspension, Signs to Fight for Venator FC

Rousimar Palhares was suspended and fined for unsportsmanlike conduct at the Oct. 29 Nevada Athletic Commission meeting. The stripped former WSOF champion offered a weak defense for his actions in holding a Kimura shoulder lock on Jake Shields well beyond referee Steve Mazzagatti's attempt to stop the fight, especially considering his shaky past. Palhares has been accused of doing the same thing, dangerously holding submission finishes well beyond the referee's attempt to stop the fight, on multiple occasions.

The hearing included testimony from Palhares and Mazzagatti, as well as WSOF president Ray Sefo, who had already stripped Palhares of the belt and suspended him from fighting for the promotion, and pioneering MMA referee John McCarthy, who did little to bolster Palhares' defense.

Surprisingly, however, the NAC issued Palhares a much lighter sentence than it's recent five-year suspension of Nick Diaz for multiple drug test positives for marijuana.
