Rockies place Oswalt on DL
One day after straining his left hamstring, Colorado Rockies right-hander Roy Oswalt was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
Oswalt left his Sunday start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second inning after he was injured while covering home plate after throwing a wild pitch.
The Rockies called up outfielder Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Oswalt's spot on the roster. Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is day-to-day with an injured finger on his right hand after fouling off a pitch, so Blackmon provides bench help.
Another starting pitcher likely will be added to the roster the next time Oswalt's turn in the rotation comes up, for Friday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Oswalt has allowed 15 runs in 17 2/3 innings over four starts for the Rockies this season. He is 0-3 with a 7.88 ERA since making his season debut June 20. He signed a minor league deal with the club on May 2.
The 35-year-old veteran split last year between starting and relieving for the Texas Rangers, going 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA in 17 appearances (nine starts).
Blackmon, 27, hit .240 with one homer and two RBIs in 12 games with Colorado earlier this season. He was batting .288 with a .376 on-base percentage, a .428 slugging percentage, three homers and 40 RBIs through 68 games in Triple-A.
