PHILADELPHIA -- Jorge De La Rosa won his third consecutive start Tuesday night as the Colorado Rockies earned a rare road victory, 5-3 over the Philadelphia Phillies.
De La Rosa (13-6) pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits. He struck out three and walked three while beating the Phillies for the first time in five career decisions.
Troy Tulowitzki and Wilin Rosario homered for the Rockies, who had lost three straight, all on the road. They had dropped 12 of their previous 14 away from home and 14 of 20. Colorado is 23-41 on the road in all.
The Phillies lost for the third time in five games under interim manager Ryne Sandberg, who replaced the fired Charlie Manuel last Friday.
Philadelphia put the tying runs aboard in the seventh, but with two outs, Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado made a spectacular backhand play on Jimmy Rollins' smash down the line, then executed a one-hop throw to Todd Helton at first base. Helton ranged off the bag to gather the ball in, then tagged Rollins.
In the eighth, Colorado reliever Rex Brothers was twice called for balks, allowing Domonic Brown to advance from first to third. However, Brothers struck out Michael Young to end the threat.
Rafael Betancourt pitched a scoreless ninth for his career-high 16th save in 17 opportunities.
Philadelphia's Tyler Cloyd, recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make his first major league start since June 12, worked six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Cloyd (2-3) struck out six and walked one.
Tulowitzki hit his 22nd homer, a two-run shot, as part of a three-run first inning. It was his second homer in as many nights.
Colorado's Dexter Fowler tacked on an RBI single in the second, and Rosario's solo homer in the third made it 5-0.
The Phillies struck back with three runs in their half of the third. The first came home on an error at first base by the usually sure-handed Helton, who was celebrating his 40th birthday. Chase Utley also drove in a run with a single, and Brown added a sacrifice fly.
NOTES: Rosario has hit safely in a career-best 11 consecutive games. ... Philadelphia optioned LHP Raul Valdes to Lehigh Valley to clear a roster spot for Cloyd. ... Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, out since he underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee on July 10, will resume baseball activities Thursday. ... LHP John Lannan likely will need season-ending surgery on his left knee, according to Philadelphia assistant GM Scott Proefrock. Lannan, who will seek a second opinion next week, has a ruptured tendon in the knee, Proefrock said. ... Phillies RHP Roy Halladay, out since undergoing shoulder surgery in June, made a second rehab start Tuesday. Pitching for Class A Lakewood, he allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings. ... Helton went 0-for-4. He has a .352 average (19-for-54) on his birthday.
