Rick Story Steps in for Injured Gunnar Nelson at UFC 160 on Memorial Weekend

Icelandic fighter Gunner Nelson has been forced off of the UFC 160 fight card due to an undisclosed injury. Rick Story, however, has already agreed to step in for him and fight Mike Pyle at the Memorial Day weekend event in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the switch late Tuesday night.

Pyle (24-8-1) is on an impressive run, despite having a three-fight streak halted by Rory MacDonald at UFC 133. Following the loss, Pyle returned to his winning ways with a trifecta of victories that include Ricardo Funch, Josh Neer, and James Head, putting his name back on the radar.

He had been looking to the bout against the undefeated Nelson as a stepping stone back into title contention, but will now face Story instead.

The past couple of years have been rough for Story. He has gone 2-3 in his last five fights, but is coming into the fight with Pyle having defeated Quinn Mulhern at UFC 158 last month in Montreal.

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez puts his belt on the line in a rematch with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the UFC 160 main event on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
