LSU defensive end Christian LaCouture suffered a knee injury during practice Monday. And there’s a chance it could cost him the season.

According to reports from the Baton Rouge Advocate and NOLA.com , LaCouture’s knee injury is possibly “significant” and “major” A spokesperson would only confirm that the injury happened.

LSU’s defensive line depth is one of the reasons the Tigers are considered the favorites to usurp Alabama atop the SEC West standings. LaCouture, a senior in 2016 started 10 games at defensive tackle in 2015 and had 35 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He entered the season as LSU’s most experienced defensive lineman with 23 career starts.

Defensive end Isaiah Washington also suffered a knee injury at practice. The severity of his injury is unknown. Washington played in six games as a freshman in 2015.

LaCouture’s potential season-long absence comes after LSU found out defensive lineman Travonte Valentine was eligible to practice again. Valentine took summer classes to regain his eligibility after he was deemed ineligible before the 2014 season. He left the program over the summer of 2015 and played at a junior college.

Valentine was a four-star recruit and the No. 59 player in the class of 2014 according to Rivals.
