Reports: Knicks set to waive G Chris Smith

The New York Knicks reportedly are waiving reserve point guard Chris Smith, news that didn't go down well Monday with Smith's brother, Knicks shooting guard J.R. Smith.

Chris Smith played a total of two scoreless minutes over two games with New York. He wrote on his Twitter account, "Would like to Thank the @nyknicks organization for the great opportunity. I am truly Blessed to have been apart of the #knickstape .."

J.R. Smith's reaction was more graphic -- literally. On his Instagram account, he posted a picture of Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone from the movie "Casino," with the caption: "You know the sad thing about betrayal? It never comes from an enemy."

According to multiple media reports, Chris Smith's $491,000 contract was guaranteed, so he will make the full amount even if the Knicks part ways with him.

Several media outlets reported that the Knicks would use the roster spot to promote center Jeremy Tyler from their Development League affiliate in Erie, Pa. Tyler, broke his foot before training camp, returned to action in the D-League, where he is averaging 18 points and 10.2 rebounds in six games.
