Reports: Astros' Lee balking at trade to Dodgers
Houston first baseman Carlos Lee reportedly has told the Astros he would not to waive his partial no-trade clause Saturday to allow a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lee said he was told by Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow the Dodgers have made an offer for him, according to MLB.com and Fox Sports. However, Lee was reluctant to take the deal because he has roots in Texas, including a successful cattle ranch.
"I met with Jeff this morning and he told me what's going on and let's see what happens," Lee told MLB.com prior to Saturday's game at the Chicago Cubs. "I just told Jeff I want to see my options. I just want to wait and see what my options are."
Details of the proposed trade were not revealed, though the Dodgers appear to be seeking offensive help. They have lost 10 of their last 11 games -- including three consecutive shutouts to the rival San Francisco Giants -- and they fallen from a 7 1/2-game first place to a half-game behind the Giants.
Lee, 36, is hitting .290 this season with five homers and 29 RBIs. He is in the last year of a six-year, $100 million contract and will make about $9 million for the remainder of the season.
