Report: Spurs sign Tracy McGrady

One-time NBA star Tracy McGrady, who played this season in China, signed a contract to play for the San Antonio Spurs for the rest of the season, Yahoo! Sports reported Monday.

Because McGrady wasn't on an NBA roster this season, he is eligible for the playoffs.

McGrady, 33, last played in the NBA during the 2011-2012 season, when he played 52 games for the Atlanta Hawks and averaged 5.3 points.

He worked out for the Spurs last summer, but wasn't offered a contract and became a free agent. He then signed to play for Qingdao in the Chinese Basketball Association and averaged 25 points for Qingdao this season.

The Spurs released Stephen Jackson recently, and Boris Diaw will undergo surgery, so they need some athleticism and a veteran presence for the postseason.

McGrady's letter of clearance arrived from China on Monday, which allowed the Spurs to sign him.
