Report: Rolen expected to retire

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Scott Rolen may have played his final Major League game, according to a report in USA Today.

An official announcement isn't expected until later in the offseason.

Rolen struck out to end the Reds' season in the NL Division Series on Thursday, then was asked about his intentions for next season. He offered only that he was "going to go home and be a dad."

The 37-year-old batted .281 with 316 home runs and eight Gold Gloves during a 17-year career that began in 1996 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
