Ochocinco works out for Dolphins

Wide receiver Chad Ochocinco had a workout with the Dolphins "recently," according to coach Joe Philbin.

Ochocinco was waived by the Patriots last week after one disappointing season in New England in which he caught just 15 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins traded Brandon Marshall to Chicago over the offseason and have a collection of secondary receivers. Whether Ochocinco can fill that void at this point of his career is far from certain.

"We are going to do our homework, we are going to investigate," Philbin said. "We are just doing our due diligence and investigating things. We had him in for a workout and we will see how things go.

"It is not an indictment of any of the players that we have, we like the players that we are working with at this point in time. I don't think that it's any different than any position, you always evaluate your roster."

Brian Hartline is one of the players competing for a starting job, but has been sidelined by an undisclosed leg injury. Philbin admitted that consistent drops have been a concern as the coaching staff evaluates the wide receivers on the roster.

"Again glancing at some of the drills today down in the red zone there were a couple guys, it's not always the receivers, some backs dropped one here and there and a tight end, but we have to catch the ball more consistently at every position on offense, because it is not quite where it needs to be," Philbin said.

Ochocinco indicated via Twitter on Friday that there's interest in him from NFL teams, but no other clubs have -- at least not publicly -- stepped forward so far.

He has continued to work out privately while awaiting his next NFL opportunity, and Miami would be a preferred destination considering Ochocinco is set to marry VH1 reality star Evelyn Lozada in South Florida.

Ochocinco has 766 career receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.
