Report: 5 more players have links to suspected PED clinic

The SportsXchange

The South Florida clinic that has rocked the baseball world this spring reportedly has five more professional baseball players as its clients.

ESPN reported Tuesday that newly acquired documents show that the Biogenesis of America clinic, which is run by Anthony Bosch, had as clients San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Oakland A's reliever Jordan Norberto, Houston Astros outfielder Fernando Martinez, San Diego reliever Fautino De Los Santos and New York Mets minor-league outfielder Cesar Puello.

Like the players named in previous reports, sources said Biogenesis documents show that these five also received performance-enhancing drugs. There is no proof they used or received the PEDs.

Also, two sources told ESPN that Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez did not receive PEDs, despite previously named in a report. A document obtained by ESPN showed Gonzalez received $1,000 worth of substances from the clinic but none of them were banned by baseball.

Major League Baseball is investigating the clinic after news of client base surfaced last month in a Miami New Times report. More than two dozen players have been identified in the clinic's documents as being clients of Bosch.

ESPN reported all of the latest clients in the report are either current former clients of ACES, a sports agency owned by Seth and Sam Levison. The report said 10 ACES clients have ties to the Bosch clinic. The Levinsons have denied knowledge of the clinic's work.

"Other than those players who have previously tested positive, we have seen no evidence to conclude that any of the players mentioned recently in the media were involved with performance enhancing drugs," Seth Levinson said in a statement. "As we've stated unequivocally before: anyone who knows us knows that it is absolutely ridiculous to think that we would ever condone the use of performance-enhancing drugs. We have represented many hundreds of players over 25 years, and our track record makes it perfectly clear that we do things the right way.

"Neither Sam nor I or anyone else at ACES have ever met or even heard of Anthony Bosch until the recent news stories nor does anyone have any knowledge of or connection to Biogenesis."

ESPN also reported the latest paperwork offers more references to previously mentioned players, such as Melky Cabrera, Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz and Ryan Braun. Braun has said he used Bosch's clinic strictly as a consultant.
