Reggie Bush's nomadic career finds a new home in Buffalo

Reggie Bush has had an unusual career.

It hasn’t been a bad one by any means, though expectations were through the roof after he won a Heisman Trophy for USC (sorry, after looking at the official records that apparently never happened) and was the second pick of the 2006 NFL draft. He has 9,001 total yards from scrimmage, 57 total touchdowns and a Super Bowl ring. He even got to date Kim Kardashian.

Even though we’ll remember him on the New Orleans Saints — or, more realistically, we’ll remember him on the USC Trojans — Bush has become a nomad in the second half of his NFL career. He officially joined the Buffalo Bills on Monday, providing the Bills a much-needed backup to LeSean McCoy.

For Bush, it’s his fourth team in five seasons. After leaving the Saints, he has been with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and now the Bills.

Buffalo might not have been his first choice, unless his attitude has changed since he was unimpressed with the city in 2009:

Also, Bush and Bills coach Rex Ryan had a verbal spat in 2012 after Bush said he thought Ryan’s Jets were trying to hurt him. He didn’t seem to remember that when talking about Ryan on Monday afternoon.

“I’ve always been a fan of Rex,” Bush said, according to the Bills’ Twitter feed. “Now getting a chance to play for him will be very cool.”

It’s funny how a lack of options can make people forget old grudges.

Bush, coming off a season-ending knee injury, remained unsigned all offseason. The Bills had backup running back Karlos Williams show up out of shape to offseason practices and then Williams got suspended for four games. Bush probably needed the Bills if he wanted to play an 11th season, and the Bills needed Bush to solve their tailback depth problem. Bush can also return punts.

Bush has turned in a good, solid NFL career that has produced a few fun highlights. He’ll keep his career going in Buffalo this season. Who knows, maybe he’ll be coming to your NFL city next.
