Redskins OT Williams on foot injury: "nothing serious"

The SportsXchange

Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams has been hailed as one of the standouts of training camp so far, but he was forced to the sidelines in Thursday's preseason opener at Buffalo with a left foot injury.

Williams said he was hurt on Robert Griffin III's 20-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon but felt like the injury was "nothing serious" after X-rays came back negative.

"I'm fine," he said. "It's really nothing."

The Redskins could ill-afford to lose Williams, the anchor of an offensive line that was without three projected starters at Buffalo. Right tackle Jammal Brown and both guards -- Kory Lichtensteiger and Chris Chester -- missed Thursday's game.

Williams said the pain was on the top of his foot. He was walking with a pronounced limp when he left Ralph Wilson Stadium and the team is likely to update his condition over the weekend.

Williams cleared out two defenders on the touchdown.

Williams missed six games last season and two games in 2010. He was a first-round pick, drafted fourth overall, in 2010.
