Red Sox get permission to interview Wallach

The Boston Red Sox have been granted permission to interview Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach for Boston's vacant managerial position, multiple media outlets reported.

Wallach, 55, is a former All-Star third baseman, and he managed the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Albuquerque for two seasons. He was named the Pacific Coast League's manager of the year in 2009.

The Red Sox fired manager Bobby Valentine last Thursday.

The team's search for a replacement is expected to begin after team CEO Larry Lucchino returns on Friday from a vacation in Europe.
