Rays exercise $6.5 million option on DeJesus

The Tampa Bay Rays picked up their $6.5 million club option on outfielder David DeJesus for 2014 on Sunday.

DeJesus, 33, batted .251 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 122 games combined with the Rays, Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs this season. He is a career .279 hitter.

DeJesus started 26 games with Tampa Bay after he was acquired from Washington on Aug. 23.

The Rays have until Monday night to decide on a $2 million option on pitcher Juan Oviedo. Saturday, they exercised 2014 options on second baseman Ben Zobrist ($7.5 million) and shortstop Yunel Escobar ($5 million).
