Raiders sign DBs Jenkins, Young

The Oakland Raiders signed free agent defensive backs Mike Jenkins and Usama Young.

Jenkins, displaced as a starter last year when the Dallas Cowboys selected Morris Claiborne in the first round, signed a one-year contract. Jenkins comes to Oakland after five years with the Cowboys, and will join newly signed Tracy Porter, signed last week, in the competition for starting cornerback jobs.

Jenkins has started 48 of the 71 games in which he has appeared, and has eight career interceptions, 43 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one interception return for a touchdown.

Young is entering his seventh NFL season, and started 11 of 13 games for the Cleveland Browns last season. He entered the league as a third-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2007, and has started 25 of 81 career games.

The Raiders also re-signed unrestricted free agent Andre Carter, who returned on a one-year deal. The defensive end had 2.5 sacks in 12 games with Oakland last season.
