Raiders matchup crucial for Jaguars offense

This Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Oakland Raiders at home. Jacksonville’s offense hasn’t been great to start the year off, but that can soon change. The Raiders have the better record, but the Jags couldn’t have asked for a more favorable matchup.

Oakland’s defense has been absolutely, positively AWFUL so far this year. They have given up the most yards in the NFL and have allowed an average of 27.2 points per game. They have failed to put pressure on the quarterback, and their coverage hasn’t been all that impressive. This makes this matchup a dream come true for the Jaguars’ high-octane offense.

Jacksonville’s running attack hasn’t been all that effective through these first six weeks of the season. Chris Ivory has gotten off to a somewhat slow start since his return from injury. T.J. Yeldon hasn’t exactly been fantastic, either. Facing the league’s third-worst defense could do a lot for their confidence going forward.

The Raiders’ defense has allowed an average of 313 passing yards per game. With the amount of weapons that Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has at his disposal, that amount is easily attainable. Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Julius Thomas could make mince meat out of an Oakland secondary that has been less than fantastic thus far.

Bortles, Ivory and Yeldon have been disappointing so far this year, but a matchup against a poor Raiders defense would boost their confidence. In such a mediocre division like the AFC South, that could be enough to propel them into first place.
