QB Fitzpatrick visits Bengals

Former Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick met with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.

Fitzpatrick was released by Buffalo on the first day of free agency, ending his unsuccessful run as the franchise's starting quarterback.

The Bengals have been surprisingly active scouting the quarterback class considering their support of Andy Dalton, a second-round pick in 2011, who has guided the team to back-to-back playoff berths.

But there is no safety net behind Dalton.

Fitzpatrick was due to receive a $3 million roster bonus and a base salary of $4.25 million in 2013.

The 30-year-old Fitzpatrick passed for 3,400 yards last season with 24 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He has thrown 92 career TD passes and 81 interceptions.

"We kept every possible option open right down to the wire when we had to make a decision on whether to keep Ryan," Bills general manager Buddy Nix said. "In the end, we had to do what we feel is best for our football team and it was a very difficult decision."
