Purdue hires Georgia Tech AD Mike Bobinski

Mike Bobinski is moving from one engineering school to another.

The Georgia Tech athletic director will be the new AD at Purdue, replacing the retiring Morgan Burke.

Bobinski has been the AD at Georgia Tech since January of 2013. He was previously the athletic director at Xavier, where he was for 12 years after he was the athletic director at Akron. A New York native, Bobinski went to college at Notre Dame and replaced Dan Radakovich at Georgia Tech. Radakovich is the AD at Clemson.

The hire of Bobinski is a proactive one by Purdue. Burke doesn’t retire until June 2017, so the school has plenty of time to transition between the two. One of Bobinski’s biggest priorities at Purdue will be a revival of a sagging football program.

The Boilermakers haven’t won two (or more) conference games since Danny Hope’s final season in 2012. Darrell Hazell replaced Hope after the 2012 season and has gone 6-30 in his three seasons at Purdue. Burke stuck by Hazell for a fourth season, but it’s only common sense to suggest Hazell needs significant improvement in 2016 from his team if he wants to stay around for a fifth season.

Bobinski hired former Memphis coach Josh Pastner to replace basketball coach Brian Gregory this spring.
