PRESS BOX: Pistons might sign Jason Collins
The Detroit Pistons are interested in signing free agent center Jason Collins, according to ESPN.com.
The two sides have talked but no offer has been made, the report indicated. In April, Collins became the first openly gay active athlete in North American major sports history.
Collins, a 12-year veteran, has not received much interest from teams since free agency began six weeks ago, but that may have more to do with his performance in recent seasons than his sexual orientation. The 34-year-old played 38 games last season with the Celtics and Washington Wizards but averaged just 1.1 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.1 minutes per game.

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby caused a brief stir when he walked into a Pittsburgh-area DMV on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Crosby went in to renew his license but did not have to wait in a long line like many of the other patrons. He benefited from a state DMV policy that allows celebrities to jump to the front of the line to avoid chaos.
A spokeswoman for the motor vehicles department said celebrities can be ushered to the front of the line if supervisors determine that it would help in "keeping control and keeping disruptions to a minimum."
Celebrities can have their agents arrange an appointment with the Pennsylvania DMV and have a local office manager promptly assist them.

Two more arrests were made Saturday morning in a rape case involving four former Vanderbilt football players.
Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio, Calif., was booked into the Davidson County (Tenn.) jail and Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, 19, of Woodville, Miss., was booked. Vandenburg's bond is $350,000 for nine charges, including tampering with evidence and unlawful photography.
The former Vanderbilt players were indicted Friday on five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of an unconscious student at a campus dormitory in June. The school dismissed the players from the team on June 29.
