Piazza says in his book he used andro, greenies
Former Major League catcher Mike Piazza, who was not elected to the Hall of Fame last month possibly because of suspicions he used performance-enhancing drugs, said in his book that he used andro and greenies, but nothing stronger, according to the New York Post.
Piazza goes into a lot of issues in his book "Long Shot," which is scheduled to be released this week.
Citing quotes from the book, the Post reported that the strongest substance Piazza admits to taking was androstenedione, which is commonly called andro and is a muscle-building supplement bought over the counter at nutrition stores.
Piazza said he stopped using it in 1998. It was banned by the FDA in 2004.
Piazza admitted that he took amphetamines, commonly called greenies, but he preferred Dymetadrine. He also used Ephedra. Greenies and Ephedra have since been banned by baseball.
Piazza also discusses rumors about his sexuality, and denies he is gay: "If I was gay, I'd be gay all the way," he said, according to the report.
Piazza, who is married and has two children, thinks speculation about his sexual orientation started when he was with the Mets and manager Bobby Valentine told the media he felt baseball was ready for an openly gay player.
