Phillies 3, Nationals 2

PHILADELPHIA -- John Lannan pitched eight shutout innings against his former team Monday night as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 3-2.

Lannan (2-3), signed in December by Philadelphia as a free agent after six years with the Nationals, allowed four hits -- singles by Jayson Werth in the second, Ryan Zimmerman in the fourth, Bryce Harper in the sixth and Steve Lombardozzi in the eighth. Werth's single was an infield hit, and Lombardozzi's came on a bunt.

The Nats did not advance a runner beyond second base against the 28-year-old left-hander, who struck out four, walked two and induced 12 groundball outs.

Still the owner of just one career shutout -- that coming when he blanked the Mets on July 21, 2009, as a National -- Lannan was removed in favor of a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth.

Washington scored twice in the ninth against Philadelphia closer Jonathan Papelbon on sacrifice flies by ex-Phillie Werth and Adam LaRoche. But Papelbon retired pinch-hitter Chad Tracy to end the game and earn his 19th save in 23 opportunities.

Ben Revere went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for the Phillies, who won for the fourth time in five games. It was the 22nd multihit game in the last 56 for Revere, who has hit .343 since May 1, a span of 61 games.

Dan Haren (4-10), signed in December by Washington as a free agent, took the loss, his seventh straight. He went five innings, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Haren fell to 0-4 in his career against Philadelphia. The Phillies are the only team he has not beaten in his 11 major league seasons.

The Phillies scored their other run off reliever Fernando Abad in the sixth, when Jimmy Rollins singled home Revere with two outs. Revere had slapped a double to left field.

The Phillies scored their two first-inning runs on Domonic Brown's infield single and a bases-loaded walk to Darin Ruf.
