Despite ending the season much sooner than anyone would have wanted, it is now time to turn our attention to most fans second most favorite time of year. The NFL Draft. This year, the Eagles front office won’t have far for their phone call to travel with the draft taking place in Philadelphia.

Growing ever closer by the day, many fans have already begun to turn their focus towards the upcoming NFL Draft. While free agency remains between the draft and us at this current moment, the draft is the only area where the team controls its own destiny, at least in some sort of form.

With the Draft now just over two months away, we are closing in on the second best part of the NFL year. All that remains in the evaluation process is the combine and individual workouts. After that, we will be arriving in Philadelphia for draft day. So without further ado, we present week six of the “Philadelphia Eagles potential first round draft picks.”

3. Dalvin Cook — Running Back — FSU

Depending on the outcome of a coin toss with the Indianapolis Colts at the NFL Combine next week, the Philadelphia Eagles could either be making their first round pick at 14 or 15. While most years, this difference in pick would not make that much of a difference, this year it could make a huge difference for both the Eagles and the Colts.

With both teams needing some youthful talent at running back, it is possible that the first of these two teams could select Florida State running back Dalvin Cook. Given the Eagles likely hole at the position, the addition of Cook would surely help quarterback Carson Wentz next season.

Seen as a strong, fast runner, Cook is the undisputable second best running back in this draft class. Given his talent, he will be a top 15 pick no matter what. However, should the Colts land ahead of the Eagles, it is likely that he will be off the board before Philly could even make their first round pick.

2. Sidney Jones — Cornerback — Washington

Having a coming out party of sorts during the Huskies national semi-finals loss to the Crimson Tide, Sidney Jones has rocketed up draft boards since the beginning of the NFL’s offseason. Originally seen as a lower first round pick, Jones is now a player that could go in the top 20 and potentially inside the top 15.

Extremely talented in man coverage, Jones is a player that knows how to play the cornerback position. Having the ball hawk sense that many defensive coaches love, Jones knows how to read routes, quarterbacks and catch points in order to intercept passes. Also possessing solid size, Jones is someone that could be a number one corner in this league.

With the Eagles needing two new starting cornerbacks this offseason, don’t be shocked if Philly goes with a cornerback in the first round. Despite the depth of this draft class, Jones is someone that warrants a first round selection. If he is taken, the Eagles will have at least one long term answer at cornerback.

1. Corey Davis — Wide Receiver — Western Michigan

In need of some added talent at the wide receiver position for next season, it would not be shocking to see the Philadelphia Eagles select a wide receiver in the first round of this years draft. While I have had Mike Williams at this position in recent weeks, I do see him being selected before the Eagles make their pick.

With Williams off the board, the Eagles will turn to this draft’s second best receiver in Corey Davis. While Davis does not have as much supporting documentation for this pick, it is his raw ability and instincts that have allowed him to rise into the first round. That said, Davis will be a project player for the Eagles and will be someone that needs a lot of polishing before he is a starter.

However, his ability to play strong and tall when he is called upon is undeniable. He was a man among boys at Western Michigan and he should excel especially against some of the moderately sized NFL cornerbacks. If his overall game can be developed then he will eventually become a star player in this league.
