Perez off DL, Paulino diagnosed with torn elbow ligament

The Kansas City activated catcher Salvador Perez the 60-day disabled list, the club announced Friday.

The Royals also announced that right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino has been diagnosed by team doctors with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Paulino will receive a second opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum. Paulino pitched three innings in a rehab start with Class AA Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts with Kansas City.

The club still needs to make a corresponding move on its 25- or 40-man roster before officially adding Perez.

Perez has not played for the big league club this season after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee in March. He batted .340 with two doubles, seven RBI and 11 runs scored in 12 games on his rehab assignment with Class AAA Omaha.
