Panthers LG Silatolu out for season

Carolina Panthers starting left guard Amini Silatolu is out for the rest of the season after tearing his right ACL during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Travelle Wharton replaced Silatolu during the game. Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Monday that either Wharton or right guard Chris Scott will move into Silatolu's spot.

Rivera said the team will look for another lineman to add depth to a thinning line. He said the team dealt with similar injury issues last year.

"It's kind of been two seasons in a row where we've kind of had to go through this," Rivera said. "Last year we played well down the stretch with a group of young guys that hadn't gotten an awful lot of snaps prior to this. I believe it's something we can work on and get going in the right direction."

The Panthers allowed seven sacks to the Cardinals. Rivera blamed a combination of factors: miscommunication, quarterback Cam Newton holding the ball for too long and the Cardinals' defense causing confusing to the offense.
