Panthers S Jones fined $21,000

Carolina Panthers safety Colin Jones was fined $21,000 for an illegal blindside block on Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Mannelly during their Aug. 9 preseason game.

Mannelly, who is out with a rib injury, blamed himself. He said he had no issue with the hit and should have seen Jones coming.

"It was poor field awareness on my part," Mannelly told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The NFL has been making a point of protecting players running down the field while covering kicks.
