Padres RHP Stauffer could miss rest of year

San Diego Padres right-hander Tim Stauffer, on the disabled list for a strained right elbow, could miss the remainder of the season.

Stauffer, who was on the DL a second time because of the elbow, felt soreness in his right shoulder after an Aug. 11 rehab start for Class AAA Tucson.

Padres manager Bud Black told the North County Times that the new injury could cause Stauffer to be out the rest of the year.

"We're going to exhaust all the medical opinions and make sure we get all the tests and have the doctors look at him and do everything we can for Tim to make sure the road we take is the right one," Black said. "This is definitely a rough one based on the time of the year, and the couple of times he's tried to come back just hasn't worked out."

Stauffer made just one start this year. He started 31 games in 2011.
